A little truth about me

I get motion sickness on mountain roads, still throw up at high altitudes sometimes, and still love the journey enough to keep going.

About the traveller

The story behind Sana Hiikes

Hi! I’m Nabamita, a passionate traveller who loves the journey just as much as the destination. I’m deeply drawn to places with history, character, and stories, and this is where I document my trips, treks, lessons, and little bits of craziness along the way.

Personal & honest

Real stories, real mistakes, real learnings.

Travel that helps

Itineraries, stays, transport, and hacks that actually matter.

My story

A traveller shaped by memory, movement, and a love for places with soul.

Hi! I am Nabamita, a passionate traveler who has high motion sickness on mountain routes. So yes, I’m that kind of traveler who vomits in high altitude and still enjoys the journey too. Exploring new places becomes even more important for me when I get to indulge in their history.

My travelling journey started when I was young. Whenever I visited my grandma’s house during summer vacations, my father always gave me the task of penning down my travelogue. I visited many places after that, but never really gathered the courage to share my personal experiences publicly.

Maybe it was the world of blogging, maybe it was reels, maybe it was timing, but something eventually pushed me to begin, and that journey slowly became Sana Hiikes.

I completed my schooling in 2017 in my city, Bokaro, and later did my bachelor’s in Guwahati, where I got the chance to explore nature more closely, walking in forests, going hiking, and discovering places that felt raw, quiet, and real.

During my post-graduation, I worked with Hiiker, an Irish-based startup, where I learned about mapping and trekking routes. That role sparked something huge in me. Through work, I explored places like England, Scotland, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia...

...but wait, don’t mistake it, I was working from home. I only visited those countries on Google Maps.

After some months of travelling in real life, savings ran low and I stepped back into the workforce again. Later, I joined Himalaya Shelter, shifted to Dehradun, and spent months travelling in Kashmir. Even then, I felt like something was still missing.

I have always planned my own itineraries and learned many travel hacks through my journeys and work. Now I’m finally documenting my trips and treks with photos and notes, trying to help others understand how travel actually works, itineraries, transport, stays, and all the rest of the small but important details.

Everything noted here comes from our own experience and craziness. This 2025 has brought me many things and many new places to explore, and I’m trying to capture and share as much as possible.

Travel with motion sickness

A reminder that travel doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Self-planned itineraries

Every trip taught me how transport, stays, timing, and budget really work.

Mapping & trekking routes

My work with trail mapping shaped how I think about journeys and landscapes.

Why I share

Because travel becomes easier when someone tells you the real things too.

I’m trying to help others understand not just where to go, but how travel actually works: how itineraries are built, how to manage transport, what to expect from stays, and how to deal with the unexpected.

This space is not just about pretty places. It is about the full experience, the planning, the chaos, the joy, the discomfort, and the stories that stay long after the trip ends.

Capturing the journey

“Everything here is built from my own journeys, the chaos, the learning, the planning, and the love for exploring.”
